OUR TOP STORY: MUSEA's chump of the month #1, Chancellor Media Corp- (chair-
man is local/loco Tom Hicks - remember his sensitivity in the arena deal?) is now the largest owner and operator of radio stations in the country [surpassing Corp. Art, Westinghouse/CBS] All this due to the FCC de-reg of radio- i.e.- selling it to the highest bidder. In this market Chancellor owns 6 including: The Edge (of what?) B97, Kiss FM, and 2 new buyouts, KZPS and QlO2. Both staffs were immediately fired. Musea remembers Q102 for some local music (it made national hits for some local bands), a positive help for the community in its annual blood drives and 15-year veteran DJ/musical director Redbeard (I had met him, didn't like him, but respected him and was awed by the ZZ top long red beard.) Chancellor in its typical callous and mean behavior, bullied everyone out and no one was allowed to say goodbyes on the air. They then replaced them with a demographic machine oldies `urban' station that plays all Black
hits but is supposed to be for a white audience - go figure! (Dallas Observer, DMN/ Al Brumley). In related news KAAM, that used to play big band music and had an actual real person DJ, Jack Bishop, has been moused by Disney - It's now a radio station supposedly for kids but if you've listened to it (ex. Minnie Mouse singing the Beatles "Drive My Car") you know it's just an ad for Disney and a disgrace for anyone that loves kids. M-I-C, K-E-Y, I Hate Y-O-U! - - -Art S. Rev says, Hey Radio, there's a Catch 22 - if you keep targeting your audience smaller and smaller it GETS smaller and smaller, That's why there hasn't been any crossover hits since 1980.

TITANIC DISASTER #2: Local residents of Popotla Beach in Mexico say there's an enormous chemical discharge coming from the tank used in the filming of Titanic- Local restaurant owner Juan Valencia says, "chlorine discharges from the studio's massive tank are creating a submarine desert along the curving coastline." And the fishermen's catch has dropped from 15-2 tons. Fisherman, Manuel Hernandez says, "Fox is not a good neighbor to us." (World Press Review/ Kowaiski)

UPDATES: We reported that Mike Barnicle of the Boston Globe had been caught in a
bunch of journalistic lies. He has now been fired. The final doozy was a `true' story that was so
heart-warming (In a hospital a white child gives the parents of a black child $10,000 after the
black child's death) that Readers Digest wanted to reprint it. But in checking the facts
they found it was all made up. Journalism friends tell Musea that inside the industry NO
GOOD PAPER would tolerate this behavior from any reporter. Another Update: When Dallas
decided on its giant steer sculpture years back, Musea suggested a real cow herd kept
down by the Trinity River Bottoms near Downtown would have been a better attraction for
tourists - Dallas scoffed but Fort Worth is doing, and will have their herd in the Fort worth
Stockyards, (Sort of real vs- virtual- kind of appropo analogy huh?)...Also Musea is
proud to announce that our article, "THE FCC IS UNCONSTITUTIONAL" was reprinted in
THE ZINE YEARBOOK #2, editor Jen Angel (editor of Maximumrocknroll). It's a great buy at $6/ POB 590514, San Francisco/CA 94159.

CAMP CHAMP is LAURA MILLER, the Dallas City Councilman is stirring things up in
a positive way for her Oak Cliff district. After taking off ice she appealed to BARNES & NOBLE(?) to put a store in her district (there's not a chain superstore in south-of-the-river poor(?) Dallas; though in SIZE it is larger than whole cities like Atlanta, or Kansas City!) B&N says it's no go, you aren't smart enough for us- Or to put it in Corp-speak: Its formula for a successful store requires 30-40 thousand college grads living in the area, and south Dallas has 22,82l - translation: your money's not good enough you morons! NOW that's the typical slap-in- the-face customer relations that we know and love about Corp. Bigness! (P.S. there are 41
Starbucks throughout Dallas but none in Oak Cliff) thus: too dumb for coffee? (DMN Maria Halkias)

FOR DISCUSSION Choice 1: Have you ever seen any character on any TV show ever say they hate smoking and hate being around smokers? I haven't. Wonder why? Choice 2: Clinton & Gingrich have launched a $200 mill a year ad campaign against drugs for kids. The ad campaign is 1% of the annual $l6.8 billion used to fight drugs. Wouldn't it be cheaper to go to Columbia and buy the entire crop? Then everyone would make out like bandits.. .except the bandits!

INTERNET QUOTE: Todd Wagner, CEO Broadcast.com (Dallas Co that broadcasts virtually any kind of radio and video [365 radio stations, 21 TV): "We believe we are part of the 2nd wave of the Internet - think of the Internet as evolving from a text-based world in which we know who the portals are- the Yahoos, the Excites. But we now think the Internet is evolving to a multimedia world in which we are the portal for streaming media. We're both the portal and the destination." (DMN/ A. Goldstein).
