MUSEA salutes Levittown for its pragmatism 50 years ago Now let's add some elegance to the mix:
If successful, the New City faces even tougher hurdles. Ex: Innovations work too well, everyone wants to live here. With demand higher prices skyrocket. Finally only the rich live here and servant/workers have to be bused in. Traffic jams grow and rich residents isolate themselves till they are out of touch in their now fortress city. We need a mix of housing to prevent that. Here's one plan (there should be many), for low cost housing or an apartment in a duplex, 2 or 3 story or multi- story building.
Note these economical innovations: This is modular housing. Kitchen/bathroom has all the plumbing and is one module. The rest of the house is made of square empty modules all easily connected. 2nd bedroom has an accordion style screen that when extended divides the room into 2 smaller bedroom - each with a closet. Bathroom has shower, no bath, and 2 shelf areas. Kitchen has a 2 burner oven, half fridge, shelves, plus a movable storage cart. Lots of closets with curtains standard and doors optional. The goal was make it simple but elegant- basic but sophisticated.
