Engine
Room On the Moon
Special
Musea issue for
Kids -
Deep
in the Moon
is an engine room
Mechanical wurring
turbines turn
pistons shifting
up and down
dials and meters
flicker around
with barely lit lights
and a crackling sound
below
the joints
oil pools
and drops off the pipes
and turns to ooze
with a stagnant smell
that echoes the halls
a maze of pipes
a catacomb
a square angled web
from room to room
notes
of warning
and directions on the walls
posted with tape
that's about to fall
wheels on valves
some rusted shut
some over used with
paint peeling off
rustling,
scuffling
boots somewhere
means someone is
patrolling there
iron
beams
with walkways above
of corrugated
aluminum
tubs
of eerie
glowing goo
bubbling but also
below zero too
stairways
leading
up in the air
to closed off rooms
where silhouettes appear
of foremen behind
the soot coated panes
no admittance sign
covered with stains
fuse
boxes with
doors half opened
cords frayed
and slightly sparking
a
fan half covered
with a discarded glove
fingers bubbling up
a throbbing thumb
endless
endless
endless rooms
warehouses of doors
and doorways and steps
and
lamps and their shades
high up above
raining down photons
with only a few
reaching all the way
to the ground floor
layered with meteorites
pulverized to dust
chains
swaying
but no drop of wind
chugging dynamos
in a line
5
men covered
in suits of grey
from head to toe
with black glass eyes
come and go to
weld some defect
their wands, streaming fire
off to their sides
marching by me
in single file
combination
locks
open in a room
locked to nothing
stored on a shelf
gathering dust
and little more
fork
trucks on rails
a 100 feet above
zooming past
and then are gone
where
do they go
where does it end
the mechanical decks
deep in the Moon.
