Baba Yaga
(based on a Russian fairy tale. As the
story opens the mouse is helping the girl
escape from the witch, Baba Yaga)
"Run, run with all your might
and when you hear
Baba Yaga's near
Throw this belt and it'll make a river
All the while running running
cause she'll cross it
with her magic
turning it to ice like the lump in her chest
Then when she's breathing down your neck
take this comb
and toss it so
It bounces off the frozen steppe.
And it'll make a forest of fir
all more dense
than any fence
She'll shake her fist and yell a curse."
"Thank you kind mouse and when I get home
visit me
and you'll never want."
"I will indeed but now my sweet
Run! Run! Go! Go!"
My muse?
Not one
but a choir
The tea he had left, was cold.
So the master poured from the steaming pot
poured and poured till it overflowed
and burnt his hand. He dropped his cup.
And it shattered to pieces that covered the floor.
"Now there's room to fill it up."
Sayings (by the editor)
No one searches for the Sun
You must beat a man down before he can get up
Hope is sparks before a flame
Don't read the bookmark, read the book.
On or off - the same switch
Balloons filled with gravel, never pop
All the other flavors are just bad chocolate
Flames jump both ways.
All rays lead to the Sun
Hollow drums make louder noises
Yo Yo Ma
and Yo Yo Pa
played duets
with a son-in-law
One would strum
one would fiddle
and one'd turn pages
in the middle.
we look at the Moon through the leafless tree
cold winds rattle the brittle branches.
"See where it seems to set on that limb?
Soon a peach will stand in its place."
