beaming Moon
what are you thinking?

Margaret's Story:
When my two brothers, my father, and I sat down for our big Sunday dinner, my father was still lecturing my older brother. I lifted my younger brother Mike onto his booster chair and pushed him up to the table. Mom brought in some hot dishes and went back into the kitchen.

One plate that was already on the table was a bowl of appetizers: celery, carrots, and other raw vegetables. I took a stalk of celery for myself, and handed another to the baby. My older brother took a carrot. We started munching as Dad continued:

"The Chinese have myths and ideas that are totally different from ours. For instance, instead of seeing a man in the moon, they see a rabbit..."
"Where's the rab'... Where's the moon? I forgot," interrupted little Mike.
My older brother, annoyed, said, "Look out there, through the window, the white ball in the sky. See it?'

They all looked towards the moon, my brother pointing at it with his CARROT and trying to make little Mike understand.

I began to giggle. They all looked at ME!

Momma said, "Hush," and sat down.

Excerpt from Engine Room On The Moon (see Musea issue #139 March '05 for the full poem)

Deep in the Moon
is an engine room
mechanical wurring
turbines turn
pistons shifting
up and down
dials and meters
flicker around
with barely lit lights
and a crackling sound ...

I read my story
with a Moon bookmark

I've decided to live
on an aeroplane
and never come down
and never come down

all through the night
all through the day
never come down
never come down

halfway between the
earth and stars
neither too near
or neither too far
with the Moon
shinning next door

I've decided to live
on an aeroplane
and never come down
and never come down

  Full Moon

(my version of a poem by Walter De la Mare)

One night as I lay fast asleep
into my drowsy eyes
a great white light began to creep
from the evening skies
It was the nearby Moon for whom
I raised my dreamy head
Her surge of beams filled the pane
and flowed across my bed

So for a while I gazed at her
and she gazed back at me
till climbing slowly on her way
I was back asleep.

If he could fence it
he'd steal the Moon

"A poet could not but be gay
In such a jocund company",
so our beloved Wordsworth states.
But I think I prefer for me
not golden daffodils that wave
from the breezes off the lake
but rather a less tangible sea
the host of the Moon's silvery beams

the Moon
jumps the fence

setting Moon
rising Sun
busy morning
all around

No Moon but
snowflakes fall,
has it shattered
from the cold?

Two kids playing

stop rattling your cup
! Look at that Moon
Isn't that enough?"

he had to buy

Black clouds crack

The moonlight is a single white
above the branches and trees
but under the leaves it's exquisite shades
of the palest charcoals and greys

we're low on cream
leave a bottle on the porch
and let it fill up
with top floating Moonlight."

the Moon,

silently singing
songs of solitude
and longing

the priest pointed out
the high road
while above us all
the trail of the Moon

am I alone in
seeing the Moon
in that quick glimpse
of cloudless sky
shining down on
my small home
before more clouds
swept it away

Oh Li Po
who ISN"T drunk
beneath the Moon

Silly Li Po
thought he fell up
from the boat
to embrace the Moon

(Legend says that the Chinese
Poet, Li Po, while drunk, fell from
a boat and drowned, when he
tried to embrace a reflection of
the Moon in the water.)

The Moon's reflection fell
and smashed into the sea
into a million pieces
bobbing on the waves

dive through the Moon
and shatter it into waves.

"New ideas
come like this"
says the poet.

"Moonlight falls
through a window
and lights up the door."

That poet is

Oh poet
you've become
so enamored -
the Moon's moon!

Full Moon

for those
who are blind

and a single

lingers

cameo Moon
(a phrase, written by Ellery Queen in,

the Moon

full Moon

I filled
my sketchbook

the Moon refuses
to shine on some
zigzagging its light
around those shadows

"A telescope
between you and me
and yet we seem
closer than before

so sure in meditation
that I could touch the Moon
that I hugged my knees
as if unconsciously
ready for the long
gliding free fall
back through the void
to homeland Earth

wherever Moon gazers
assemble
we're assured to see
one beauty

IN THE CHINESE MANNER:

it's late at night. The air is cool.
I watch the moon from the iron bridge.
"Are you, like me, unable to sleep?"
(the version of a poem by Kikusha-ni)

pacing in the garden
trying to solve a problem,
heavy clouds separate
and the clear moon appears.
(Loosely based on an idea from
Shih Pao-Yueh's poem "The Road is Hard")

I see in the dark night
climbing the steep path
a walking lantern
with a rakish gait
(based on an idea by Shiki)

sky temple
Moon!
(Based on a haiku by Buson)

he wades the river
with a girl on his shoulders
and looks! Another passenger,
the reflected moon!
(Based on Haiku by Shiki)

bamboo grove
and each stalk
one moonbeam
and one shadow

I sleep alone
but wake in the wee hours
to find half the bed
filled by the Moon.
(Excerpt from Po Chu-I
"A Lonely Night in Early Autumn")

MOON LOVERS

A caller came
up the path.
Knock! knock! knock!
The door opened up
and the maid
looking through
the narrow crack
listened intently
to his appeal
to see 'her Lady'
and then replied
matter-of-factly
"Sir, I'm sorry
but she's engaged
spending the night
gazing at the moon."

KISS KISS MOON
I got a letter
from the Moon.
It said my Dear
I'll see you soon
When I have waxed
from dark to light
and I am at
my brightest bright
(It'll take a week or two)

Until then I'll
end my missive
with a signature
and kisses
Bye for now
I'll see you soon.
Signed, your love,
Kiss, kiss, Moon.

through the portal
Moon!

Love,
full Moon inside

Twilight softens the sky
the temperature cools slightly
I stroll toward the lake
and find a dry rock
overlooking the water

how long I sat there I don't know
but when I looked up
from the lapping waves
I wasn't alone
the Moon, too,
had come down to the shore

To all lovers on this moonlit night -
may darkness point to the lamp of love
whose moving, ebbing, flowing, light
remains a constant in the land above

the Moon and I
are now one
ship and sea
at the same time

Dancing Across the Moon (lyrics to a the song featured on H & PD CD "30")

I'm dancing, dancing across the Moon
I'm dancing, dancing across the Moon
C'mon babe, rocket up and join me soon.

I'm hip, hopping across the Moon
I'm hip, hopping across the Moon
C'mon babe, rocket up and join me soon.

I went downtown to the hardware store
Got me some pipes and some tin foil
Put them together and lit the fuse
Headed out into the blue

I'm dancing, dancing across the Moon
C'mon babe, rocket up and join me soon

She doesn't come
the Sun takes flight
the Moon is left
to comfort me

dewy green eyes
under moonlight

cupid Moon

neither bird nor phantom last night by the Moon
that was me singing my plaintive song

as you walked the worn path in the garden
with your heart a jar of longing

that was me singing my plaintive song
(inspired by a Shoshone poem)

Mistress Moon

all lovers

Moon

following the Moon,
Moon shadow

Moon watching party?
Bah! False lovers!

Through My window
(lyrics without a song by th)

Through my window the moonlight is shinning
drawing the oceans towards the sky
and like the Moon shines, you shine in my life
and draw out of my soul, wholehearted love.

You are the star that's guiding me
lighting the way through the dark
You are the flame that ignited in me
a love that will never depart

And so to you I vow my love forever
through darkness and light,
night and day.

The Moon
follows me home
darting
among the trees

:Moon -
Lady of the
perpetual
soft echo
(from the sci fi novellla, Library Planet by th)

moonlight shines
between the lovers

nearsighted me
gets new glasses
"I missed you Moon
most of all."

the Moon
comes by
then leaves my true love
is that Moon 10,000 moons -
full love! DARK MOON
The Abused Child's Painting
(The Sun is Black)

the sun is black
the Moon empty
the stars worn out,
and night follows night.

Even the
full Moon
fades
away

dark clouds then ...
briefly the Moon ...
dark clouds again ...
(S.O.S.)

Even the daintiest
and tiniest of flowers
has more fragrance
than all the Moon.

Skull Moon

Moon full
and hidden by clouds
a flower blooms
but no one sees

The Moon sets
the sky is dark

KID'S MOON

Moon Tea
As the moon waxes from dark to full
I fill my teacup to the top.
As the moon wanes from full to dark,
I drink my tea until it's gone.
(From the kid's book Moon Tea)

"Look at me
I'm the crescent Moon,"
she said as she
arched her back.

Ida has a moon!
Isn't that cute
a tiny asteroid
out in the bottomless space
plays like all the big rocks
with their satellites
She has little Dactyl
circling all the time
Ida has a moon
a dollhouse in the sky!

Merry-go-round
Moon,

I find the Moon
shinning bright
all is well
for the night

too much pie
not enough Moon!
(review of a brand of
Moon pie)

You can't go to a Moon that's full
No room for you in an all full Moon
No room for you in the Moon at all
You can't go to a Moon that's full

You're welcome to a Moon that's new
Room for all in an all new Moon
Room for you and others too
You're welcome to a Moon that's new.

But what about a crescent Moon?
It isn't full and it isn't new
Room for one and maybe two
Room for us on a crescent Moon.

And the cow jumped over the

I wonder if that
is snow on the Moon
I wonder if it's
colder than ours

SCIENCE MOON

Start with a Moon that's new
give it some time to grow
soon it's an orb of half light
soon after it's all full
and further along its course
all the light is gone

How the Moon was Born

a meteor strikes
yet no noise

its side torn out.
And flung to space
yet chained forever!
The iron of earth

Wife interrupts with, "What's all this?"
"I'm trying to find the exact distance

"What a waste of your time and talent

She waits. He ignores. She says anyway,
"It's here to there! Now come to bed."
